GUAIFENESIN/CARBETAPENTANE/DECONGESTANT - ORAL
USES: Guaifenesin is an expectorant which hepls to loosen mucus. Carbetapentane suppresses a cough. Decongestants relieve nasal stuffiness.
This combination medication is used to treat a cough and relieve symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies, hay fever, sinusitis and other respiratory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: This mdeication is best taken with a full glass of water after a meal or snack. Swallow long acting tablets and capsules whole. Do not crush or chew them: the long action will be destroyed and the chance of side effects will be increased. Take that medication as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or take that more often than diretced.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, dry mouth or anxiety may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medciation. If any of these effects continue or bceome bothersome, inform your doctor.
Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid pulse, skin rash, painful or difficult urination, tremors, nervousness, trouble sleeping. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: kidney problems, heart disease, lung diseases (e.G., asthma, emphysema), high blood pressure, an overcative thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, prostate trouble, any allergies. Use caution performing tasks requiring alertness if that medication causes you to feel drowsy. To aviod dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also liimt your intake of alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these effects. This medication should be used only if clearly needed druing pregnancy.
Discuss the rsiks and benefits with your doctor. Since smlal amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: blood pressure drugs, MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages while taknig that medication. Do not start or stop any medicine wihtout doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may incldue excitement, tremor, restlessness, insomnia, fast heartbeat and breathing, dilated pupils, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking that medication. It will help to break up mucus and claer congestion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resmue your usual dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.
Do not stroe in the bathroom.
